The future of health benefits: flexibility

The workforce has changed dramatically in the past decade, with consumers demanding more flexibility around employer-sponsored health insurance, and the gig economy taking off. As such, consumers are largely in favor of decoupling of health insurance from employment and exploring alternative coverage such as the individual coverage reimbursement arrangements (ICHRA). Employers and benefit administrators would do well to explore this trend and consider plan offerings that meet consumers’ changing expectations.
